counter argument

Is the U.S trying to help Colombians by signing a free trade agreement (FTA) with them? Some people may consider the agreement an opportunity for Colombians to purchase technology brand clothes and imported food for cheaper prices they are currently paying. Colombians and Americans politicians suggest that the FTA will create jobs and economic stability for Colombians, yet experience in the U.S. and abroad has shown that free-market policies lead to poverty for Colombian workers especially for Colombians farmers who will not be able to compete against the subsidized American products I strongly believe that this agreement should not be signed because it will take away the jobs of millions of Colombian farmers, it will bring American lab produced food to Colombia and it will ruin the current environment.

Super size me the best way to get fat, sick and depress in 30 days.

Anyone who has the inclination to eat fast food should watch this documentary. It follows Morgan Spurlock who goes on an all McDonalds diet for 30 days. Although the diet is extreme it makes a point that is hard to ignore. Prior to and during the course of this diet he monitors his health. I went into this documentary thinking it may be but another extreme view against greedy corporations but found this documentary to be fact based and balanced. Spurlock objectively examines a number of food industry issues in an entertaining and informative style. At times he had me laughing and at times he had me stunned. This documentary was very well done. Amazing look at what eating McDonald's food regularly does to harm your health and body. Before viewing this film, I knew fast food was not a healthy choice, but I had no idea that it could ruin your liver functions and cause such a widely diverse set of health problems. This film also shows how OUR elected officials are bought and sold by the food industry. No surprise there, but the fact that congress actually outlawed suing fast food companies over making people obese, is an amazing statement that these officials only care about their campaign contributions, no matter how much harm they do to their constituents. I applaud Morgan Spurlock for having the courage and stamina to do what it took to complete the rigors of this project. He put his life and health at serious risk to prove this important point. No longer can the fast food industry say, "well show us your proof that our product is bad for you." If this documentary doesn't motivate you to change your eating choices, nothing will. Although, i have to admit that after the movie i went to MacDonalds don't ask me why but i just felt like it lol.

Organic does not have to mean expensive.

Dear Laura,
It has come to my attention that lately you have been struggling to stay fit and to stay away from eating fast food because it is the cheapest food out there. Then let me ask you one thing, what do you think about junk food? Chris O’Brien would say, “The journey of a thousand pounds begins with a single burger.” Or Roger von Oech would argue, "I don't like to eat snails. I prefer fast food." I’m writing this letter to help you improve your eating habits. I am going to teach you how you can get organic food that you can afforded and food that will allow you to stay in shape and to stop eating that disgusting “food” that we call fast food or junk food or from buying evil corporation’s food.
To begin with, to be able to buy good and cheap organic food you have to drive out of NYC. Most of the food that is offered in NYC’s markets is this lab-produced food that is very bad for your health because of the amount of chemicals corporations use to make your fruits, vegetables and meat bigger, fasters and cheaper. Consequently, Fast food and the food produced by corporations could affect your health very seriously to the point where many kids and adults are getting illness such as Diabetes, Arthritis, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, Heart Disease and many other more just from eating this food. However, I have found a place where you could drive and get “honest” products that are made in real farms, not in labs like corporation’s products, by real farmers and the only “chemical” they use to harvest their crops is love. The place is located in New Castle, Delaware and is call farmers market. This place is like a big mall full of all kind of organic food that is made in the farms around the area, this food is as cheap or maybe cheaper than the food you get here in the city at the supermarkets with the difference that this is real healthy food made with no chemicals. So, by making this 3-hour drive you will be eating cheap organic food that is not going to make you sick and will allow you to stay on shape and who knows maybe even save some money because in Delaware you do not have pay taxes.
In case you don’t want to make the 3 hours round trip drive, buying organic food online will also allow you to eat cheap organic food, to stay in shape and not to exceed your budget. Many people in the world are staring to use the Internet for everything even for buying food. It may be a benefit because some times stuff online is cheaper than buying it in the stores and it is also much quicker to do. So I found a website call organicdirect.com, in this place you can find anything from butter, milk and steak to pet food and cleaning supplies. This place allows you to buy your groceries using your credit or debit card and the only thing you have to do is write down your address. They will deliver your food within 3 days to the front of your door. As a result of this, you will not only be saving money buying organic food online but you will also save time.
To sum up, eating fast food or Evil Corporation’s food will not allow you to stay fit and it is definitely not healthy at all. So by either making a 3 hours drive or just buying online your organic food will be improve your life style by staying away from all the diseases that you could get from consuming the wrong kind of food.

Shoul we call this food?

What’s up everybody my name is Daniel and I’m going to give you my opinion about the movie food Inc. This movie shows us that the “food” we eat everyday is not as organic as we think it is. The movie also talks about how corporations and fast food chains are destroying the food that people have been eating for the last thousands of years only to get more profit out of it. Unfortunately, the food does not come from the trees or the ground directly to us like it used to be before, but the food is being modified in labs before being put out in the stores. It was brought to my attention at the begin of the movie when Michael Pollan shows how corporations relate their products names and logos to farmers in order to make us believe that the product we are eating is coming from one of this places. Consequently, we can see that Farming is not what it used to be...big business has taken over the food supply, and the quality of the food we consume (and people's health) has suffered because of it. I also found very interesting the fact that none of the targets of this film, the large corporations, were willing to take part in the film, and it's clear to see why. I remember the first time I went to an American store and I saw all these cheap food (in comparison to my country) such as fish, meat, grains and specially this big nice looking fruits I was amazed. I remember saying to my self “how is it possible that these fruits are so big and cheap here while in my country (Colombia) these are small and expensive”, right after that, I remember I saw these pretty big yellow bananas I could not believe that my favorite fruit was twice as big as it was in my country. The craziest part was when I approached closer to these bananas and I found out that these bananas were brought from Colombia. I couldn’t understand how it was possible that after 20 years in my country I had never seen these. However, thanks to this film now I know that these bananas are so big because they are modified and the ones that I had always eaten back in Colombia were natural which but the way are tastier. To conclude I have to say that this film is a truly eye opening to the secrets about our food and all the corruption with the US government, the FDA and multi-million dollar conglomerate companies who only care about profit vs. quality. What will happen to our rights and who know how many more people will have to die or how many farmers are going to have to lose their job to finally put a stop to this.
